UGFM Wins CBAA Award

November 22, 2009

UGFM received the prestigious Tony Staley Award for Broadcast Excellence at the Community Broadcast Association of Australia (CBAA) conference in November 2009.

The Tony Staley Award

The Tony Staley Award is the highest recognition in Australian community broadcasting, named in honor of the late Senator Tony Staley who was a great supporter of community radio. The award recognizes outstanding service to the community radio sector.

Recognition of Black Saturday Response

UGFM received this award in recognition of our extraordinary broadcasting efforts during and after the Black Saturday bushfires of February 7, 2009. Our team provided continuous emergency information, helping to coordinate evacuations and keeping our community informed during the worst natural disaster in Australian history.

A Team Effort

This award recognizes the dedication of all UGFM volunteers who worked tirelessly during the emergency period. Many presenters worked extended shifts, sometimes around the clock, to ensure our community had access to vital information.

The award was accepted on behalf of all UGFM volunteers and the communities we serve. It stands as a testament to the vital role community radio plays in regional Australia.
